Calling Iran from the UK?

Iran’s telecommunications industry is dominated by the TCI (Telecommunication Company of Iran). The industry can therefore be described as almost entirely state-owned. As of 2004, the fixed line penetration was well developed by regional standards, with 22 fixed lines per 100 people, a significantly higher penetration than Saudi Arabia and Egypt at the time. The UAE was the only country in the region which was ahead of Iran in regards to fixed line penetration at the time, narrowly leading with a fixed line penetration rate of 27 lines per 100 people in 2004.

Fast forward 10 years and the fixed line penetration rate is over 40%, though the growth has slowed down in comparison to mobile phone penetration. According to the latest statistics, there is at least one mobile phone line per person countrywide and considering that there are over 70 million people in Iran today, the mobile penetration rate is quite impressive. The high mobile penetration rate can be attributed to Iran’s population demographic i.e. over 60% of Iranians are below the age 25. The Iranian government through TCI has also played a crucial role in ensuring that everyone has access to telecommunication services regardless of their location.

The internet penetration is also impressive with over 60% of Iran’s population is composed of internet users. This makes Iran the top country in the Middle East in regards to internet penetration. Iran’s telecommunication industry is among the largest in the Middle East region, being a $13 billion industry.

UK Plans
Lycamobile UK Plan (“the offer”) inclusive allowances are for calls and texts from the UK to standard UK landline (starting 01,02 or 03) and other UK mobile numbers, and for mobile internet usage in the UK. Other usage will be charged at standard rates. Allowances are valid for 30 days from the date of purchase. 4G availability is subject to handset model and location. Calls are rounded up to the nearest minute for the purpose of calculating remaining allowances. A customer may have only one offer on their account and may not buy another during the 30 day validity period. Any remaining allowance after 30 days will not be carried over into the next 30 day period should the customer repurchase their bundle. Lycamobile reserves the right to replace or amend the offer or these Terms & Conditions or to withdraw the offer at any time on reasonable notice. Note that promotional credit (credit which Lycamobile has given to customers for free) cannot be used towards purchasing a bundle.
